Prices of edible oil and garlic (local) increased at the city's retail markets during the last week while prices of coarse varieties of rice declined slightly.
Besides, prices of other essential commodities including rice (fine varieties) and vegetables remained unchanged in the city's retail level.
Traders said prices of edible oil increased by Tk 8.0-Tk 12.0 per litre again in the city's kitchen markets although the government fixed the mill gate price of soybean oil at Tk 73 per litre and palm oil at Tk 59. Most of the traders blamed the suppliers for the price hike of the edible oils.
In the past week, non-brand edible oils such as soybean and super palm oil sold at Tk 80-Tk 82 and Tk 70-Tk72 per litre respectively in the city's retail markets.
Prices of different brands of edible oil in five-litre cans now range between Tk 395-Tk 415 on an average in the city's retail level.
Prices of local garlic increased by Tk 15- Tk 20 per kg due to supply shortage at the city's retail outlets and it was selling at prices between Tk 45 and Tk 50 per kg which was between Tk 24 and Tk 26 per kg on an average at the retail level a week before. Besides, imported Chinese garlic was selling between Tk 22 and Tk 25 per kg on an average in the city's retail level.
On the other hand, prices of coarse varieties of rice declined by Tk1.0 per kg at the retail level. BR-28 were selling at Tk 24-Tk 25 per kg, Pari at Tk 23-Tk 25, 'paizam' at Tk 24-Tk 26 and Swarna at Tk 20-Tk 21 per kg on an average at the city's retail level, according to retail traders in the city's different rice shops.
Besides, prices of fine varieties of rice including 'minicate' variety were Tk 33-Tk 38 per kg while Nazirshail were Tk 33-Tk 36 per kg on an average in the city's retail markets during the last week.
During the past one week, non-brand sugar was selling at Tk 40-Tk42 per kg at the retail level remaining unchanged from their previous prices.
According to traders in the city's retail level, a kilo of local onion and imported Indian onion were selling between Tk 24 and Tk 28 and Tk 16and Tk 18 respectively remaining unchanged from their previous rate.
During the past week, a kilo of local lentil sold at Tk 110-Tk 115 and imported lentil at Tk 88-Tk 98 on an average at the city's retail outlets, remaining unchanged from their previous rate.
A dozen eggs were selling at Tk 84-Tk 90 on an average at the retail level. Prices of poultry birds were Tk 125-Tk 135 per kg on an average in the city's retail markets during the week.
A kilogram of beef was priced at Tk 220 and mutton at Tk 320-Tk 330 per kg at the city's retail outlets during the last week.
According to fish traders, Ruhi fish was selling at Tk 300-Tk 350 per kg, medium-size hilsha at Tk 250-Tk300 per piece and Katla Tk 250-Tk350 per kg. Other local fish including puti, tengra and shrimp were selling at prices between Tk 250 and Tk 300 per kg on an average in the city's fish markets, remaining unchanged from their previous rate.
On Friday, some vegetables including a kilogram of lady's finger was selling at Tk 26-Tk 28, brinjal at Tk 32-Tk34, papaya at Tk 15-Tk 18, carrot at Tk 24 and a medium-sized gourd at Tk 35-Tk 40.
Cucumber was being sold at prices between Tk 18 and Tk 24 per kg, tomato between Tk 22 and Tk 24 per kg, beans between Tk 28 and Tk 30, bitter gourd between Tk 28 and Tk34 and potal between Tk 28 and Tk 30 on an average in the retail outlets.
In the past week, a kg of green chilli was selling at Tk 48 -Tk 50 on an average at the retail level.
Now, a kilogram of potato was selling at Tk 22-Tk 25 against its previous prices of Tk 18- Tk 20.
