The proposed Right to Information law, which underwent several scrutiny, was now expected to be ratified in the current session of parliament, reports UNB.

Disclosing this, Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad Saturday said that with the ratification of the law, the government would continue its efforts to ensure free flow of information.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a day-long workshop titled "Codes of Conduct for Journalists" at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).

Some 30 'mufassil' journalists attended the workshop, organised by Bangladesh Press Council.

Chaired by Press Council chairman Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque, the inaugural session of the workshop was also addressed, among others, by acting Information Secretary Samar Chandra Pal.

The Information Minister urged the 'mufassil' journalists to write correct, constructive and objective stories. Correct information at the right time reduced corruption and also the chance of misuse of resources, he said.

Azad lauded the editors and reporters for running constructive and objective news on the BDR carnage.

Encouraging women in journalism, he said the government was working seriously to empower women in every sector of the country.

Later, the minister talked informally with the 'mufassil' journalists to know their existing problems.
