The government of Norway has praised Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina and the government for "quick and peaceful" solution to the February 25-26 crisis in BDR headquarters at Pilkhana, reports UNB.

Ambassador of Norway in Dhaka Ingebjorg Stofring during a meeting with the PM at the Prime Minister's Office Wednesday morning observed that if the government would not have taken quick steps to control the situation peacefully, more losses and casualties could have taken place.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed newsmen after the meeting.

Stofring expressed deep shock at the death of the army officers and conveyed sincere sympathy to the bereaved families.

The envoy said the government of Norway wants to see a peaceful Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the deaths of the talented army officers in the BDR carnage were an irreparable loss to the nation.

She said there was no alternative but to resolve the crisis in the Pilkhana through peaceful means for safety of the confined army officers, members of their families and the civilians.

Describing Bangladesh as a country of various potentials, the Norwegian ambassador said Norway would continue to assist Bangladesh in various development sectors, particularly for the development of primary education.

The PM and the ambassador shared views and opinions on how to ensure women empowerment and equal rights in the society and higher education for women.

Stofring handed over a letter of felicitation from the Norwegian Prime Minister to Sheikh Hasina for assuming her office as the Prime Minister.
