Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Sunday termed the recent media criticisms imaginary, baseless and puzzling over the storage of the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) accessories seized in raids from different parts of the country.
A team comprising members from the telecom watchdog, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and other security agencies has been conducting raids across the country to stop illegal use of VOIP and confiscating accessories used to operate the system, said the BTRC in a press conference.
It also said: 'The seized accessories are kept in custody of the case investigating authority during the proceedings of the cases filed against the accused after the raids as those are required during the trial as evidence.'
'Necessary steps are taken in line with the court order regarding the accessories.'
The press release also said the accessories are currently being stored with the BTRC after receiving those from the law-enforcing agencies and confiscation by the inspection team.
'So by no means it is possible to sell or hand over the VOIP accessories to anybody. So the news is imaginary, baseless and puzzling,' it added.
