Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has granted the first licence under Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) to Fiber @ Home Ltd for operating and maintaining nationwide optical fibre network.
BTRC Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Manzurul Alam handed over the licence to the new operator at a programme held at the BTRC office Wednesday.
The Fiber @ Home will build, operate and maintain nationwide optical fibre telecommunication network across the country. The licence holders of NTTN would be able to provide connection up to backbone network and 'end users', said a BTRC official.
Addressing the programme, BTRC chairman Manzurul Alam said the telecommunication network would stretch across the country through formulation of the NTTN guideline and it would gradually help remove the use of overhead cables in the cities and towns.
He expressed the hope that the NTTN would help expand internet penetration across the country.
